WE have previously reported the existence of several DNA polymerases in the murine myeloma line, MOPC-21 (refs 1 and 2). Two of these polymerases, which we refer to as R-1 and R-2, are capable of synthesising poly(dT) on a poly(rA)·oligo(dT)12–18template. In this report, we show that the R-1 polymerase shares immunological determinants with the ‘reverse transcriptase’ of the Rauscher murine leukaemia virus (MLV). In addition, we show that mice inoculated with the MOPC-21 myeloma tumour line or the Rauscher-virus-induced MCDV-12 tumour line contain a non-immunoglobulin factor in their sera which specifically inactivates the R-1 polymerase. |
