Abstrakt: ETHANOL is metabolized to acetaldehyde by a zinc containing enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH)1–4. This is a rate limiting step and is dependent on the presence of nicotine adenine dinucleotide (NAD) which acts as a hydrogen acceptor5,6. Over 90 per cent of the alcohol ingested is oxidized and it is currently assumed that this occurs entirely in the liver7,8.
