Three groups of organic parameters of surface waters are evaluated for their analytical methodology.A comparison of the Methylene blue versus the Cupric o-phenantroline methods for anionic surfactans is made, with the result of a proposal for replacement of the first official one by the second.Assuming that for the parameter "Pesticides and Similar Products" it is impossible and absurd the analysis of over 650 compounds making part of it, a common strategy consists of searching for those which foreseeably might be present. In our case, following to a field inquiry and considerations on persistency, a number of 33 pesticides and PCBs has been selected (22 organochlorine, 2 organophosphorous, 2 triazines and 7 polychlorinated biphenyls) which in a reasonable time are analysed with GC/ECD to much lower levels of those of EPA method 525.For the parameter "Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons" (PAHs), a number of 6 individual compounds is prescribed by both the current and the recently proposed E. U. Directives. A simple and reliable method has been worked up by us for 11 PAHs, including the 6 regulated, using a simple H.P.L. Chromatograph with isocratic elution and fluorimetric quantitation. |
