Abstrakt: The beam-gas technique has been used to obtain the vuv spectra of the sulfur ions in an attempt to provide additional spectroscopic information on S. Digital recording and analysis were used to reduce uncertainties of measured wavelengths to ±0.1 Å. Over 120 new lines were analyzed, many of which were comparable in intensity to well known transitions in the various S ions. In addition, peak intensity-vs-beam-energy measurements were used to suggest charge-state assignments for most of the new transitions. Where possible, the new transitions were correlated with previously known energy levels in the S ions. The majority of the newly observed transitions apparently arise from presently unknown term values.
