Abstrakt: Recent research promises the hope of effective chemotherapy for silicosis but means for its assessment during treatment have been lacking. It is suggested that agents which depress the toxicity of silica will reduce its solubility and this will be reflected in the amount of silica excreted. Experimental observations on different aluminium compounds show for example that aluminium—dextran, which offers considerable protection against the effects of silica also greatly reduces its excretion, whilst the aluminium—EDTA chelate, which has little protective action, does not.
