The 13C-urea breath test by infra-red absorption or mass spectra has been extensively used to detect. Helicobacter pylori infection. However, commercially available 13C-urea contains higher 18O, compared to natural urea. It is evidently important for this diagnosis to investigate the 18O-isotope effect on infra-red absorption or mass spectra, based on the quantitative analysis of 18O in 13C-urea. For this purpose, a new analytical method using mass spectroscopy has been established to determine 18O abundance in urea. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. |
