Abstrakt: Two independent state-of-the-art equations for incipient hydroplaning speeds, which were regressed from experimental data for different ranges of magnitudes of water film thicknesses, are investigated relative to merging them into a single criterion. One equation was developed for water film thicknesses above 0.10 in. (2.54 mm), and the other below 0.10 in. The strengths and weaknesses of both equations are examined. It is concluded that more experimental data are necessary in the range of water film thicknesses less than 0.10 in. (2.54 mm) because of data scatter.
