Abstrakt: Summary A strain of ECHO virus type 9 (Miller) inoculatedparenterally produced in cynomolgus monkeys transient fever (16.5 per cent), and viremia (100 per cent). This virus was recovered from spinal fluid (25 per cent); inflammatory lesions were found in the CNS of a large fraction (70.0 per cent) of the animals, but in only 5 of these were inflammatory lesions found in the substance of the brain or spinal cord. One monkey had interstitial myocarditis and pericarditis. Type specific neutralizing antibodies developed in monkeys surviving 11 or more days afterparenteral inoculation. One of 4 monkeys following infection by way of the alimentary tract yielded findings identical to those obtained after parenteral inoculation.
