Abstrakt: Summary Scrapie-associated fibrils (SAF) play a controversial role in the discussion about the nature of the scrapie agent. In purification experiments SAF can be detected in brains of infected animals but not in spleen samples with similar titers of infectivity. Thus, SAF are not a constituent of the scrapie virus.
