Summary The properties of Sendai virus ribonucleoprotein isolated from the cytoplasm of infected Ehrlich tumor cells (eRNP) were compared with those of RNP isolated from Sendai virus infected mouse fibroblasts (mRNP) and from Sendai virions (vRNP). All three RNP sedimented at about 200S in a sucrose gradient. However, run in the same tube eRNP moved one-two fractions behind vRNP. vRNP and mRNP banded homogeneously at 1.31 g/ml in a CsCl gradient and were resistant to RNase digestion while eRNP banded at 1.35 and 1.38 g/ml and was sensitive to the enzyme. Both e and mRNP contained 50S RNA and two polypeptides of MW60,000 and 72.000. The presence of a complete and competent genome in eRNP was evidenced from the experiments showing its infectious activity for embryonated eggs. |
