Histone isolated from calf thymus inhibits the reproduction of DNA-containing vaccinia virus. F1and F3fractions of histone have the same effect though in a lesser degree than crude histone. F1fraction has a stronger inhibitory effect than the F3fraction. Inhibitory action of histone on the reproduction of vaccinia virus is principally attributed to the formation of a complex of the viral DNA with histone. |
