Summary 1.The authors have studied the binary system UCl4-UF4 by DTA and by chemical analysis, and have constructed the phase diagram.2.Three uranium chlorofluorides are formed in this system: UClF3, UCl2F2, and UCl3F (which is described for the first time). All three chlorofluorides melt incongruently at 530±6, 460±3, and 444±2o, respectively. No solid solutions were observed in this system.3.The optimal conditions for obtaining uranium (IV) chlorofluorides from binary melts of the system UCl4-UF4 have been basically determined. |
