XPS-analysis reveals the enrichment of nitrogen containing compounds in the metal oxide-polymer interface of adhesively bonded structural TiAl6V4-joints after environmental degradation. The nitrogen enrichment is caused by moisture diffusion in the epoxy polymer and the mobilisation of soluble components of the adhesive. This process results in a weaking and final failure of boundary layers of the polymer. |
