Abstrakt: Summary The composition of commercial wool wax and modified wool wax preparations has been investigated for possible indicator substances to allow determination in cosmetic preparations. This is possible via n-a-hexadecanoic acid, cholesterol, lanosterol and dehydrolanosterol as the key compounds. By determining their concentrations and calculating the ratios of their concentrations the addition of wool wax in a cosmetic can be ascertained. For the recognition of the addition of modified wool wax preparations tests for the presence of some wool wax derivatives have to be carried out.
