Abstrakt: We have studied the line shape of the 655 cm-1 Raman line in carbon disulfide and the 1002 cm-1 line of chlorobenzene, from which we determine the orientational and vibrational relaxation times. We present results obtained on the vibrational relaxation of chlorobenzene in solution with heptane, dimethyl sulfoxide, acetone, and quinoline. Peculiarities in the behavior of the polarized line width in various solvents is related to molecular processes which depend on the dipole moment and density of the solvent.
