The catalytic activity of magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, and calcium peroxide in reactions of dioxygen evolution from sodium and potassium perchlorates has been studied. Additives of CaO facilitate the complete decomposition of perchlorates within the same temperature range as that found for additives of Mn, Co, Ni, and Cu oxides. Tile data oil the low catalytic activity of calcium oxide in the decomposition of perchlorates are attributed to a systematic error caused by uncontrolled hydration of the CaO surface, It has been shown that CaO2 can be used as a convenient precursor of CaO in pyrotechnic systems. |
