Carbonylation of tertiary alcohols and α-olefins in the presence of BF3·H2O by ethyl formate at atmospheric pressure

Abstrakt: 1.Boron trifluoride monohydrate is an efficient catalyst for the carbonylation of tertiary alcohols by ethyl formate at atmospheric pressure and a temperature of 50–60°C, the products being the ethyl esters ofa, a-branched carboxylic acids. The carbonylation ofa-olefins in the presence of this catalyst is less efficient.2.The mechanism of the carbonylation of olefins and alcohols with ethyl formate at atmospheric pressure has been established by using BF3·D2O as the catalyst.
