IR-spectroscopic investigation of the protonation of N-methylethylenimine by the H3O+ cation with the aid of low-temperature matrix isolation

Abstrakt: 1.The direct observation of the protonation of an imine by the hydronium ion in the example of the N-methylethylenimine (MEI)-H3O+·Cl- system has been carried out.2.It has been shown experimentally that the protonation of a hydrated imine also takes place for MEI·H2O despite the fact that the lone pair of the N atom is shielded by an H bond, i.e., the water participating in the formation of the hydrate does not prevent protonation.
