Synthesis and properties of methyl ester of hydrazinetetracarboxylic acid

Abstrakt: The full methyl ester of hydrazinetetracarboxylic acid was synthesized by refluxing a hexane solution of methyl azodicarboxylate in the presence of freshly precipitated copper. The obtained ester is saponified by alcoholic alkali to hydrazine; it is aminated by liquid ammonia to give the methyl esters of hydrazinedicarboxylic and carbamic acids; during thermal decomposition it undergoes partial decarboxylation to give the methyl ester of N,N'-dimethylhydrazinedicarboxylic acid.
