Abstrakt: 1.The addition of methylsulfenyl chloride to dimethylacrylic acid derivatives initially leads to the formation of the unstablea-chloro-ß-methylmercapto derivatives, which are very easily isomerized to the stableß-chloro-a-methylmercapto derivatives of isovaleric acid.2.The derivatives ofß-chloro-a-methylmercaptoisovaleric acid, in contrast to the derivatives ofß-chloro-ß-methylmercaptopropionic acid, do not cleave hydrogen chloride when treated with triethylamine.
