1.The alkenylation of o- and p-cresols with allyl alcohol in the presence of acid catalysts was studied.2.The reaction occurs by two paths: C- and O-allylation.3.Isomeric allyl cresols, their cyclization products-the corresponding coumarans-and allyltolyl ethers are the allylation products.4.The formation of an allylation product of cresols with the double bond of allyl alcohol-2-(3-methyl-6-hydroxyphenyl)propanol-1-was observed for the first time. |
