Summary 1.The reaction between N-vinyl lactams and hydrogen chloride is extremely vigorous. When these substances react in equimolecular amounts, unstable products are formed.2.The kinetics of the addition of alcohols to N-vinyl lactams were studied. The optimum conditions for carrying out this reaction with the object of synthesizing N-1-alkoxyethyl lactams were determined. The yield of these products attained 90%. |
