Abstrakt: Summary A method is reported which is easy to perform also by untrained staff enabling Po2 determinations in blood for clinical purposes. The Po2 electrode is shaped like a small open pot into which 20 to 30µl blood is deposited. The electrode is heated from the periphery and thermoregulated directly to 37°C thus providing thermoregulation of the whole unit. An additional thermostat unit is not necessary, thus the measuring unit is small and portable. The heated electrode is calibrated with pure nitrogen and with the surrounding air. Comparative measurements made with blood after equilibration at various O2 partial pressures gave sufficiently good results. The “Trog” electrode and a conventional Po2 analyzer (Combi-Analyser, Eschweiler, Kiel) were tested in parallel; they showed equally good precision. During the period of measurement the ambient air does not influence the Po2 value of the uncovered drop of blood.
