We investigated at the electron-microscopic level the hair bundles of the macula organs in the inner ear of two species of teleost fish (Rutilus rutilus, Scardinius erythrophthalmus). All hairs (stereovilli) are interconnected by extracellular material that, similar to the cell coat, is well contrasted by application of tannic acid/osmium. |
