| Abstrakt: | Alkaline hydrolysis of substituted 2-cyanocinnamic acids leads to the corresponding substituted 3-carboxymethylpthalimidines; acid hydrolysis of the same acids results in the formation of phthalides with an analogous structure. NMR and mass spectrometric data are examined critically. |
