The object of this study is a model of breakdown in a randomly nonhomogeneous dielectric with point-size inclusions uniformly distributed over the volume. Breakdown is assumed to occur along zigzag channels joining the nearest inclusions. Statistical parameters are determined to characterize the number of inclusions within separate breaking-down potential channels. The reduction in dielectric strength due to the presence of conducting inclusions is accounted for in the simplest possible terms. A comparison between theory and test data on the dielectric strength of a model system consisting of paraffin with metal powder indicates a satisfactory agreement. |
