Abstrakt: The oxidation of o-phenanthroline with potassium permanganate gives 2,2'-dipyridyl-5,5'-dicarboxylic acid (I). The corresponding esters of I were obtained by esterification with methanol, ethanol, propyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, and benzyl alcohol.
