Abstrakt: 1.The resistance of a steel to any form of local corrosion can be significantly increased by increasing its purity.2.With the level of contamination that exists at the present time in commercial stainless steels, a certain portion of the alloying admixtures that can be introduced into the steel is actually used to reduce its tendency to local corrosion, and is expended in compensating for the negative effect of the impurities. As a result of this, it is necessary to treat the refinement of stainless steels not only as a means of improving their performance, and frequently their technological properties, but also as a means for economizing on scarce alloying elements
