Abstrakt: 1.Fibrous composite materials with brittle filaments, typified by boroaluminum, with an imperfect interface can be represented as a model system consisting of two parts: part I, with the maximal strength of the interface and fracturing by a noncumulative mechanism; part II, with zero strength of the interface and fracturing by a cumulative mechanism.2.A theoretical analysis showed that the highest strength of boroaluminum is reached with intermediate strength of the interface, i.e., with a strength lower than the maximum, which is taken as equal to the strength of the matrix. This was confirmed by experimental results obtained with boroaluminum having a matrix of flame-sprayed alloy AD1.
