Abstrakt: Conclusions 1.A semiempirical equation is proposed that is based on the concepts of Bailey and of Orowan which take account of the processes of strengthening and recovery that go on simultaneously during creep; this equation describes the creep rate $$\dot \varepsilon $$ under constant load as a function of time and temperature in the first and second stages of creep.2.Satisfactory agreement is shown to exist between the creep curves for molybdenum single crystals as calculated by means of an electronic computer and as determined by experiment in the temperature range 800–1800°C at creep rates of 10-3-10-8 sec-1.3.It is suggested that the deviation of the experimental curves in the direction of greater values of $$\dot \varepsilon $$ at the end of the second stage of creep is due to a change in the softening mechanism, in agreement with x-ray structural studies.
