Conclusions 1.In predicting the long-time strength of polyethylene in a surface-active medium, the parametric Larsen—Miller relationship can provide an acceptable solution in an environment containing a single mechanism responsible for the deformation leading to a monotypic failure in the temperature region under consideration.2.Polyethylene exhibits temperature intervals in which there exists a similarity between the long-time-strength curves. This makes it possible to obtain reliable values for the prediction of the long-time strength on the basis of results of limited-duration testing conducted at two or three temperature levels.3.The feasibility of predicting the long-time strength of polyethylene in a liquid medium from the results of tests in air with allowance for the supplementary spreading action of the medium at the tip of the crack is demonstrated. |
