Abstrakt: 1.It is demonstrated that in the surface layers of ZrC0.91 specimens produced by extrusion and sintering there are local residual stresses whose magnitude grows from 13 to 38 kgf/mm2 when the grain size is increased from 8 to 60µ.2.It has been confirmed by experiment that increasing the grain size from 8 to 60µ decreases the strength of specimens from 46 to 18 kgf/mm2.3.A new expression,s=K(1/L-10)1/2, where L0 is a critical grain size determined by the scale factor and the stressed state of the specimen, is proposed for the grain size dependence of strength.
