Normal modulus of elasticity of silicon nitride whiskers

Abstrakt: 1.Measurements were made of the normal modulus of elasticity of a-Si3N4 whiskers of three crystallographic orientations: E5°K<0001> =47,390, E<1¯2¯12> =38,530, and E <¯2421> =49,750 kg/mm2.2.On the basis of these measurements, the following values of compliance were obtained by calculation: S11 = 1.99·10-13, S33 = 2.12 ·10-13, and (S44 + 2S13) = 8.44 · 10-13 cm2/dyn.
