Abstrakt: 1.An improved procedure has been developed for studying polishing materials of widely different specific gravities. It has been established that micropowders of refractory compounds obtained by direct chemicothermal synthesis have a higher polishing power than micropowders produced by comminuting hotpressed compacts from the same compounds.2.It was determined that refractory compounds (W2B5, ZrC, BNC, Cr3C2, etc.) may be successfully utilized as polishing materials, since their polishing characteristics are greatly superior to those of the existing abrasives (SiC, B4C) and are greatly superior to those of the existing abrasives (SiC, B4C) and are not inferior to those of synthetic diamonds in the polishing of steels. On the other hand, the cost of refractory compounds is 100–150 times less than that of diamond micropowder.
