Abstrakt: 1.The ignitability of the powders of 12 transient metals, and also boron, was investigated.2.The ignitability of the powders of a number of refractory compounds was investigated for the first time.3.A method was worked out and the ignitability of powders was investigated under conditions of heating them from a point heat source.4.It was established that the powders of zirconium, niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten, titanium, iron, and boron are most pyrophoric.5.The investigated borides did not ignite even up to 1100° C.6.The ingition point of the carbides of zirconium, hafnium, niobium, and tungsten is below 1100° C.
