Abstrakt: Summary The nature and properties of the principle types of “plasma sources” are briefly reviewed, and the advantages of the microwave-induced plasma (MIP) are pointed out. The inductively coupled plasma (ICP) is discussed in some detail, with particular reference to instrumentation, analytical capabilities and perspectives.
