Conclusions: The presence even of a small quantity of magnesiochromite in the periclase body hinders the sintering of periclase. Obviously, the sintering is affected by the change in the crystal lattice connected with the formation of solid solutions in the system being studied. The presence of up to 40–45% spinel in the body contributes to recrystallization of periclase; the sizes of the grains of periclase and MgCr2O4 in such bodies is maximum. Apparently, the growth of the crystals contributes to the formation of an increased quantity of solid solution, since the above ratio of the components is close to the eutectic in the system MgO-MgCr2O4. |
