Abstrakt: 1.Various methods for calculating the molecular weights of petroleum products have been compared. It has been established that the majority of these calculation methods give good agreement with experimental values only for straight-run products that are rich in paraffinic hydrocarbons.2.The molecular weights of 162 commercial fractions have been determined; these included both straightrun materials and products of secondary origin. On the basis of these data, an empirical equation has been derived giving the molecular weight of petroleum products as a function of mean boiling point, density, and refractive index; this equation can be recommended for engineering calculations.
