1.The reaction was studied for the alkylation of methyl salicylate by isobutylene, the pentane—amylene fraction, propylene dimers, and diisobutylene.2.The optimum reaction conditions were determined and it was established that in the alkylation of methyl salicylate with olefins, except for isobutylene, a mixture of almost equal amounts of the mono- and di-alkyl derivatives of the methyl salicylate is formed which is separated by distillation.3.The methyl esters of 3, 5-di- tert- butyl-, 3, 5- diamyl-, 3, 5- dihexyl, and 3, 5-dioctyl-salicylic acids, which have not been described in the literature, were prepared.4.All of the compounds are characterized by means of their physicochemical constants, elementary composition, infrared absorption spectra, and mass spectra. |
