The temperature-time dependences of the strength of polyvinylene carbonate (PVCa) and its solid hydrogenated monomeric analog, ethylene carbonate (EC), have been investigated. The parameters of these relations have been determined graphically and by calculation. The fracture energy barriers of the polymer and the monomer are compared and the sublimation energy of the monomer is determined. It is concluded that the polymer fracture process is directly related to the rupture of both chemical and intermolecular bonds. |
