Summary A procedure for the regeneration of callus and albino plantlets from protoplasts of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), cultivar Kimono, is described. Protoplasts were isolated from a suspension culture with shoot-forming ability, which had been initiated from immature inflorescence derived callus. Protoplasts were cultured in modified Kao & Michayluk (KM8P) liquid medium. Plantlets were recovered from protoplast-derived callus growing on hormone-free modified Murashige & Skoog (MS) medium. While the plantlets derived from the original callus cultures were green, those from suspension cultures and suspension culture derived protoplasts were albino. |
