Abstrakt: By exposing hydroxyapatite crystals of a regulated mesh size to increasing concentrations of citrate or oxytetracycline, it was possible to arrive at a constant saturation value for the ratio of ligand to calcium of hydroxyapatite in the resultant solid phase. When both ligands were present in a single solution, each reduced the amount of the other that was bound per unit quantity of calcium of the hydroxyapatite. A column chromatographic separation of citrate from oxytetracycline that permitted quantitative determination of citrate when both are present in a solution is described in this communication.
