Abstrakt: Splenocaval shunt is an option for selective portal decompression in patients who are not good anatomic candidates for distal splenorenal shunts because of massive hepatosplenomegaly and downward displacement of the splenic vein. The proximity of the splenic vein to the inferior vena cava makes the construction of this type of shunt anatomically and hemodynamically advantageous over the standard Warren shunt in these cases.
