Abstrakt: The marine sponge Acanthodendrillasp. contains the proteasome inhibitor acanthosulfate ( 4), a disulfated merosesterterpene having a scalarane-type skeleton. The structure of acanthosulfate ( 4), which possesses an unusual configuration, was elucidated by interpretation of spectroscopic data.
