Abstrakt: Based on an analysis of a range of open source materials, this article details and examines the creation and work of one of the most important military‐strategic research centres currently operating in the Russia, namely the Centre for Military‐Strategic Research, General Staff, (TsVSI GSh). Staffed largely by senior members of Russia's Armed Forces, the Centre plays a significant role not only in formulating key security policy documents like the country's Military doctrine, the National Security Concept, etc., but also in helping to improve the level of the professional debate surrounding the construction and future direction of the Russian Armed Forces.
