Abstrakt: In 1992 Finding Faith Today: How does it happen? described the findings of a significant survey in England on how adults came to faith. Although it had a major impact on churches in the Decade of Evangelism, there has been little subsequent discussion of the findings. In this paper we summarise key findings of the original research and relate it to other empirical research. We concentrate on the area of whether conversion is seen as a sudden event or a gradual process. We then report our own findings in surveying ordinands of the Church of England and student ministers of the Methodist church. This specialised group showed a greater tendency to report a sudden conversion and a time in their lives when they were not a Christian.
