Vascular and metabolic effects of intravenous (i.v.) infusion of noradrenaline and isoproterenol were examined in the inguinal fat pad of dogs before and after inhibition of lipolysis by nicotinic acid. These catecholamines raised fatty tissue blood flow (FBF) similarly before and after such inhibition, while fatty tissue oxygen consumption (F-VO2) rose significantly less after administration of nicotinic acid. It is concluded that increased FBF by catecholamines is not due to enhanced lipolysis, whereas the calorigenic effect is partly caused by their lipolytic action. |
