An improved device for ignition of the TVS-40 discharger

Abstrakt: A simple device providing reliable triggering of the TVS-40 vacuum discharger used for switching a capacitive storage to an inductive load is described. The triggering is initiated with the help of a BING-5 nanosecond-pulse oscillator. Unlike known devices employing external energy sources for discharger triggering, this one uses part of the energy stored in the capacitor bank charged to the required voltage. Evaluation of the response-time stability showed that the time spread does not exceed ±0.2 μs. The reliability of the device is verified by the results of ≈500 triggerings. The device can be used in various electrophysical installations intended for magnetic-field generation.
