Abstrakt: Macgill S. M. (1977) The Lowry model as an input-output model and its extension to incorporate full intersectoral relations, Reg. Studies11, 337-354. The central theme of this paper is the formal presentation of the Lowry model as an input-output model. This can be done without serious modification to the model and allows an immediate comparison to be made between it and the existing body of input-output analysis. In reconciling the comparison it is immediately obvious how to embody, if required, the fullest possible inter-sectoral relations into a Lowry-based model and this is shown explicitly below. Following this important extension, maximum entropy mathematical programming models that are based on the same assumptions are explored, and this allows the extended Lowry model to be presented either as a matrix inverse multiplier model, or as a non-linear mathematical programming model.
