A study of uncommon substitution effects in Ce-Cu and Yb-Cu compounds

Abstrakt: | We report the remarkable alterations of physical features in binary Ce-Cu and Yb-Cu compounds which are caused by substitutions on the non-magnetic Cu sites. Depending on the substitution elements which are chosen, changes in the s-f coupling constant and/or the electronic density of states appear. This changes the balance between interaction mechanisms at low temperatures, the change resulting in for example a rapid enhancement of the electronic specific heat coefficient γ. The theoretical understanding of such unusual features is mainly based on solutions of the Coqblin-Schrieffer Hamiltonian. |
